Comparative Degree

ใช้เปรียบเทียบระหว่าง สองคน สองสิ่ง สองพวก สองกลุ่ม โดยใช้รูป comparative + than

ตัวอย่างเช่น bigger than, more beautiful than, longer than, younger than, more quickly than, more easily than เป็นต้น

วิธีการใช้ Comparative Degree

1.ใช้เปรียบเทียบระหว่าง สองคน สองสิ่ง สองพวก หรือ สองกลุ่ม

Learning Japanese is more difficult than learning Italian.

2.สามารถเติม much, far, very much, a lot, lots, any, no, a little, a bit หรือ even หน้าขั้นกว่าเพื่อขยายได้

Lily is much older than her husband.
Jack is far more reasonable than her brother.
Macky would have finished that job rather more quickly.
Their attitude was a little less enthusiastic.

3.หากมีวลี of the two, between the two, between … and …
เพื่อเปรียบเทียบระหว่างของสองสิ่ง หรือคนสองคน ให้ใช้ the + ขั้นกว่า

4.หาเปรียบเทียบคำนามด้วยกันจะต้องยึดตามโครงสร้างต่อไปนี้
more + คํานามพหูพจน์/คำนามเอกพจน์นับไม่ได้ + than = มากกว่า
fewer + คำนามพหูพจน์ + than = น้อยกว่า
less + คํานามเอกพจน์นับไม่ได้ + than = น้อยกว่า

5.Adjective ที่มีรากศัพท์จากภาษาละติน เมื่อต้องการเปรียบเทียบไม่ต้องเติม er หรือ more ให้ใช้รูปเดิมและจะไม่มีการเติม than ตามท้าย แต่จะเป็น to แทน

senior to = แก่กว่า, อาวุโสกว่า
superior to = เหนือกว่า, ยิ่งกว่า
anterior to = ก่อนกว่า
prior to = ก่อนกว่า, หน้ากว่า
junior to = อ่อนกว่า
inferior to = ด้อยกว่า, น้อยกว่า
posterior to = หลังกว่า

6.เมื่อมีตัวเลขบอกจำนวนว่ามากกว่ากี่เท่าหรือน้อยกว่ากี่เท่าที่มาขยาย เพื่อแสดงการเปรียบเทียบอายุ น้ำหนัก หรือ ส่วนสูง ให้นำตัวเลขบอกจำนวนนั้นวางไว้หน้าการเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่าเสมอ

7.หากเป็นการเปรียบเทียบทั่วไป ไม่เจาะจงว่ากว่าใครหรือกว่าอะไร เพียงแต่กล่าวรวมๆว่ากว่าทุกคนหรือกว่าทุกๆสิ่ง

comparative + than + any other + คำนามเอกพจน์นับได้

8.ใช้ในสำนวนการเปรียบเทียบ ยิ่ง…ยิ่ง… เพื่อแสดงสัดส่วนที่เพิ่มขึ้นหรือลดลงตามกัน มีโครงสร้างคือ
the + comparative + subject + verb, the + comparative + subject + verb

9.เพื่อเลี่ยงการพูดซ้ำ ประธานส่วนหน้าในการเปรียบเทียบลักษณะหรือคุณสมบัติของสิ่งต่างๆ ระหว่างของสองสิ่ง สรรพนามที่นำมาใช้แทนจะนิยมใช้ that (of) และ those (of) จะใช้แทนประธานพหูพจน์
